I would like to make a more strategy, stealth, and survival horror game than a straight out action game. For example, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Dead Space. What do you all think? We could say that the Archfiend came when Earth was young, and that the fiends influenced the minds of people to create nightmares and fear. Now, at the Invasion, they find physical conduit and are the embodiment of peoples' worst fears.

first: In the back story first there was WWIII and later the human revolution. We could do both.

Quote: "Maybe a tale of a (group of) hero(es) that led the revolt atleast according to mythology?" -me (quoting myself o: )

Turn that ^ into the game(atleast a part of it o.O?). Or we do two games but that seems like too much work lol.

The first part of the game is the attack , the second part is the revolt.

Also to make it more personal and make it seem like the player him/herself is the one struggling to survive : character customization.Chosing male/female, name, (hair, eye, etc color) and stuff.

As for fears being embodied..

I have 4 worst fears (they are personal fears >.< )

Falling- Ik its not really usable ._.
Losing a loved one- same as above ._.

Zombies-They scare the crap out of me ever since I played Resident evil 2 >.< And they can be used. But not the zombie i submitted as concept art, thats not scary enough o.o i'll try to make one more suited for a horror game like this.

Spiders-same as zombies but real ._. And a very common fear so it fits perfectly.

Anyway... another idea for this game..

My dreams never make sense..especially my nightmares ( they are rare though o.o) Most of them involve me running away to the stairs and then for example, if im at my house i run down the stairs and all of a sudden i end up running up the stairs in a room that looks like one of my schools (depending on whatever one im in at the time i dream this).

What i am running from varies but thats not important, the important part is that it makes no sense. We could use that, while the player is running from a monster and runs up stairs, goes through a door, etc. the building around them changes completely.Creating confusion and wtf moments. o.o

For example one moment they are in a factory with steam everywhere (something like the nightmare on elm street movies xD) and then suddenly they end up in the middle of a dark creepy forest.

? o.o

had another nightmare o.O it wasn't scary tho..

It started with me and others (no idea who) running from (i forgot what we were running from but it was trying to kill us whatever it was) something. We then ran up the attic and locked the door.

In the attic we were stuck since the thing tried getting through the door and we were forced to choose to go down a dark room through something that looked like a window o.O or go outside through a larger window that seemed to be above the other window-ish thingy.

Here is where the strangeness of my dreams comes into play: the upper window had Owls sitting on wooden beams and you had to swing from beam to beam to get across.Falling down would not be a good idea since it seemed to be very high o.O.(wtf owls?)

the lower window was dark so we used a flashlight to see what was there and saw a room full of bats but we couldn't see anything else so we had no idea if it was safe.

When we decided to go through the upper window the owls had changed into furbies o.O

We shot down the furbies that blocked our way but before we could try going through they respawned. So i said we should keep shooting while one by one would go through.Another person asked what would happen to the last person that was left behind.I said they'd have to sacrifice themselves for the rest of us o.O ( it was after my dream that i realized we could have shot the furbies once we had crossed and let the last person get through. /facepalm)

Once we were through that we got to a garden at the edge of a farm.Monsters came out the grass (atleast something did.. i have no idea if it were monsters or blue cardboard boxes o.O...)We shot them all, then all of a sudden the lights went out (seemed like it went from day to night in one second o.O ) I shot the last box-monster.

Then (this part is actually useful for the game maybe) a farmer with some sort of device on his back came through the corn field. The device looked like luigi's vacuum in luigi's mansion but instead of a vacuum it had something that looked like an oversized blender (the rotating sharp parts) and he attacked us with it.The farmer was almost impossible to kill and almost caught me with the blender. Then i woke up o.O.

The farmer reminded me of the chainsaw guys in resident evil 4 (hard to kill and a very dangerous weapon (even tho it was strange).

I dunno if any of this is usefull but i think we could atleast use parts o.O

i'll watch penumbra vids, i also suggest you guys should check out the suffering and its sequel the suffering:ties that bind. It didn't scare me that much (F.E.A.R scared me worse a couple of times) but the game was great and i'd play it again if i could. Also it has scary demons and ..well its a good game.Apparently its scarier than i thought for other people, i don't get scared easily i guess. o.o

Hmm my only humble suggestion is that where horror games are involved, so often any story line or plot seems to disintegrate, save for a few games. Of course if your trying to replicate dreams then integrating a plot would be difficult to say the least. However if there is an intention for a plot with the desired game, I personally believe it's important to find the appropriate blend.

Oh don't worry i'm an expert at making sense without making sense.^

Meaning i have a way to integrate dreams without losing the plot.We pretty much already have a basic plot (archfiend causing WWIII and then the human revolt against the fiends that turned them into slaves.) Now we just have to put in the horror and the confusion.(There'll be more plot than that o.o but thats the starting point)

I never intended to go from dream to dream.

Anyone played F.E.A.R. ? well sometimes the player character hallucinates ( well the thing is the hallucinations are as good as real most of the time o.O.

I was thinking the player would be in the real world. But as the game progresses the line between reality and dream like situations becomes more vague.Seeming like the character is going insane but the dreams are just as real as reality(and maybe even more dangerous).

On certain moments small cutscene like parts start suddenly that are creepy. The farther the player gets through the game the more frequent and longer the moments get.Eventually you spend more time in what seems to be a nightmare than in reality. The character thinks they are going insane but the hallucinations are 100% real. Also they hear creepy voices from time to time.

For example: The character starts the game at work when the start of WWIII is announced on the news.( And some other very bad news too, nothing fiend related yet though). And then something goes terribly wrong (as if WWIII ain't enough) and they head home to see if their family is safe.On their way home they start seeing the "hallucinations".

Ofcourse their family isn't home. The player finds out theres a shelter at the local school and heads there to see if they went there. The school is empty except for demons and maybe a few survivors.

Then after a while the character can't see the difference between real and nightmare anymore and collapses. They get captured and years later they suddenly regain their sanity. But they are already a slave. Then they start the revolt with fellow slaves.(second part of the game)

The vague line between the real and the unreal is what I find scariest.

cutscene idea: While being chased by a fiend the character somehow jumps off a building.Just before they hit the ground they close their eyes, when they open them they're in a completely different place.

^ is a recurring dream of mine but normally i wake up after my eyes open.

Ok i didn't really get that nap but meh.

At the start of the game we see an emergency news broadcast.World war three has been announced by the worldleaders! The announcer trembles as he brings the horrible news and then all of a sudden the tv loses its signal and the screen turns to black and white snow.

The player character was watching the news while at the office working. One of his collegues tries to fix the tv but then suddenly another collegue yells: " A plane is gonna crash into the building!"

The player character looks out the window , the sky is covered by black clouds as something flies towards the office building. But its not a plane.

Someone notices that its not a plane, the player only gets a vague view before a fireball is shot at the building.Everyone tries to seek cover as the giant ball of flames crashes into the building.A bright flash blinds the player character. They are knocked out.

When they open their eyes there is a hole in the window side of the room, wind blowing papers out of the room. The middle of the room collapsed and is partly on fire. There no trace of any other people. The player can't move their body as a hidious fiend monster crawls up the hole in the room.It slowly crawls towards the player, and seems to be checking if they are still alive, it licks their face with its slimy tongue. The player passes out again.

When they wake up the monster is gone but the room is still destroyed. The player gets up, their leg wounded they have to get out of the building alive. And thus starts the game o:

I like this idea! It takes the concept of World war three being fought with weapons that we can't possibly conceive in this age, which have made todays weapons obsolete and unused... In all, this keeps the game a medievil style fighter set in the future. Part of the storyline could be all of the modern tech being destroyed near the start of the game, and the futuristic fireballs and stuff left, making them resort back to swords, bows and arrows, and the likes of those days.

Honestly Kenchi, I think you've hit a gold mine here. Very Happy

Yes, I agree too.

-wipes forehead-
Shew! Sorry I'm late for the party Kenichi.

Ok, my idea runs along the lines of the player playing from three separate perspectives, each one different. For example, a new recruit in the military, a gymnast in a small town (free-running and parkour galore anyone?), and some kind of techie for a large corporation. Like I said, all very different, very different styles of play. Their worlds start to slowly merge together during the assault, along with a mysterious dream world. They see things from each others perspectives occasionally. Like the gymnast would be walking along, and suddenly see something the soldier is fighting burst through the door. There would be no line between reality and the merge with each other. Freaky thing come from the dream world: visions of bloody destruction, an invading mind/voice, things like that. Eventually the three are united under one roof, and told they are part of a project. They are attacked, and eventually all but one are killed. That one is put into stasis to be awoken later, when the revolution had started. They have visions of the dead other two doing things. Eventually they become one of the few who evacuate or whatever.

Cyber had some nice ideas for some of the visions, I had a few as well, but his are better.

Ye dude you totally missed out on the pizza and alcohol.ITS ALL GONE NOW.No dessert for you either, thats what you get for being late.

Anyway i like the multiple perspectives thing.the whole thing is good...except the "part of an experiment" thats just meh...I don't see the need to explain the visions, the mystery of not knowing why sounds better(And scarier).

And about what Kanga said, weapons in the game could start out normally but firearms and bullets get less and less frequent.at the end you won't find any at all.But you can get swords etc that last long, so by the end of the game you won't have any firearms left, except the soldier, she(yes she :p) has ofcourse more firepower and is part of her style of playing. But ammo gets less frequent for her too.The world and buildings around the characters gets more destroyed as the game progresses too.

And about my previous cutscene idea wher a character falls off a building and closes their eyes, when they open them its suddenly one of the other characters.

My thoughts: First, I can't post the cutscenes and visions I had in mind as this is a quick post and I don't have much time. I will just say it involves the supposed 2012 End of World Prophesy and how the Mayans worshiped the Fiends.

Second, why have a worldwide EMP strike or anything to get rid of the high tech weapons? You have to remember, the rebellion happens MANY MANY years after WWIII. We're talking several generations here. So, you have high tech for part one. But when the second part starts: The fiends have enslaved the earth. They have magic and so have no need for weapons. Why keep weapons that are only useful for their slaves? So, they just destroy all the weapons. However, knowledge of the technology has been passed down by the people who went to Alteria before, so we can justify having steampunk tech in AO.

No, once they take over they destroy all the weapons. Only once they have taken over. They are more than happy for the humans to kill each other during WWIII ^_^ It is in the aftermath of WWIII that they enslave the sorry remnant of humanity.

Maybe have the fiends be able to control peoples minds. (something like the matrix) and if the fiends find someone extremely loyal to them, they blend in reality steadily into the dreamworld for that person until they come into reality, still loyal to the fiends.
