PostSubject: Textures   Mon Apr 01, 2013 10:08 am

I've been trying to communicate with someone who was interested in texturing but it's a bit slow. He might be able to help with a few models, but I just don't think he has the time to do it quickly. So, the rest of us will have to do what we can. Here are a few textures I've either taken myself or obtained royalty-free and then edited in photoshop to make tileable. These ones are 1024x1024. Previously I had been making 512x512 textures, but these ones look much nicer.

The full resolution versions are available on the google docs page.

I made a swampy dirt texture based off of the first dirt. It has fewer pebbles and bits of straw.

I did a UDK terrain test with the materials. I discovered I need to remove the rock shadows on the dirt texture and maybe tone down the grass a bit. Here's a few screen shots. I know we aren't going with the UDK, but it's still useful for testing assets out.

They look pretty good in UDK. I also downloaded them from the google docs thing. Very useful indeed!

All right, I modified the dirt and green grass textures. Here's a before and after on the dirt; It's a pretty big improvement.

With the grass I just added a bit more yellow and then desaturated it. It looks more like real grass now.

Here's another UDK test with a more diverse terrain and the updated textures.

Here are some additional textures from my own collection that are my own. You guys are welcome to incorporate them as you wish (bump maps, add them as layers to textures for detail, etc.):

There are a few blends (first few), then some bumpmaps (black/white), then some general textures. Note that most of the textures are designed to be refined or integrated in other textures so they are in their native resolution.

Thanks. I think several of these will be useful as detail layers.
